If you’re following this blog you know I love to make my own things; especially gifts. However I’m aware that sometimes life happens and we don’t always have the time or resources to always make everything. I made a quick little guide for eco friendly gifts which I have personally bought for my friends and family.
For the road tripper and camper in your life.
My friends Emma and Quirijn over at roamingtwentiesss are from the Netherlands but they are taking a 3 month tour around the mainland United States! They are focusing mainly on visiting National Parks and everything outdoor related. Which also includes camping every night. I gathered up some useful items I will link below. While I do have some affiliate links below for items, please know all these items aren’t sponsored of any kind. I have purchased every single item with my own money because I genuinely find the items useful and want to support small eco-friendly businesses.
Laundry detergent from Tru Earth. These things are awesome, they come almost dehydrated in a flat, thin sheet. You can rip them up to whatever size you need. They dissolve easily in the washing machine or if you are hand washing. The 32 pack takes up the space of about a few pieces of paper. 32 loads for $15.96 I purchased mine through MeMotherEarth. I really like that the MeMotherEarth brand also has a sample pack to see if you like before committing to more. You can use my code AMBER10 for a discount.
Stasher bags for storing any type of liquid. A true multipurpose product here. Emma & Quirijn have told me they are really enjoying the Stasher bags. They often use them for packing meals on their hikes. You can even cook in them on the go. They can double as a bowl to eat from, taking left overs from restaurants, also storing liquids for toiletries because the seal is leak proof. The Sandwich bags run $12.99 and the snack bags are $9.99. If you’re ever in the market to purchase a Stasher Bag and support the work I do, you can do so through my Stasher affiliate link here.

Ethique bars for replacement of toiletry liquids. I use these on an everyday basis. They are a travelers dream come true as well. The tip to toe doubles as a shampoo bar and shaving bar. Just be sure to let the bar dry out after use. The flash solid laundry bar is also great for spot treatment of laundry and can also be used to wash dishes on the go. You can get a discount bundle on both the tip to toe and flash bar at $16. All of their packaging is home compostable as well as made with 100% biodegradable ingredients. Which means all their products are safe to use in the natural environment and are gray water safe! A true sustainable company that is doing great things! You can use this link to get a code for 20% off.
Swedish dishcloth from memotherearth. These things absorb 20x their weight in water! They can be reused over and over and in fact one dishcloth can last you up to a year! This one is made from wood pulp and cotton, which means it can be home compostable at the end of its life. Can be use for washing dishes, or showering or just cleaning up. Throw them in with your laundry to give it a clean. You can use my code AMBER10 for a small discount. They run $5.89 for one.
Plaine products are the refillable ‘milkman’ of sustainable bath and body products. The hand sanitizer is my fav and perfect for traveling people. The gift set is the best value at $17 for a 16 oz bottle and a small 2.5oz bottle that can be refilled with the larger 16oz. The scent is a refreshing peppermint. Great for a multipurpose for sanitizing needs; such as hands or any hard surfaces like door handles, glasses, tabletops. When finished you can send back the bottles (not the 2.5 oz, only the larger 16 oz) to be sanitized to be reuse again for another customer. You keep the plastic top to be reuse again. They also just put out a new shampoo plus body wash in one. So if the solid bars aren’t your thing then I would suggest giving this a try. You can use my code AMBER20 for a small discount
Go Pur filter pod made from a renewable resource that has served as “nature’s filter” for 20 million years: diatomaceous earth. Filters your water from impurities, toxins, and contaminants without the need for buying plastic water bottles. Just drop this little thing in your resuable water bottle and you’ll have clean water on the go. One pod works for up to 6 months. At the end of its life used pods can be sent back to the manufacturer to be recycled. I purchased mine through MeMotherEarth. One Pod runs $24.95. You can use my code AMBER10 for a discount.
Silicone cups from MeMotherEarth. I really liked how these can fold flat so they take up little space. For that moment maybe you want a glass of wine or just double as a bowl for eating oatmeal in the morning. Made from 100% food grade platinum silicone, which is BPA free. One cup runs $6.98 (which they are currently on sale) You can use my code AMBER10 for a discount.
One thing I did reuse for this gift was some candy tins. These are from Trader Joe’s green tea mints, which you can find when you are checking out at the register. They make for a great repurposed salt and pepper container for camping. Plus when finished they can be continued to be reused for something else. I also added some tiny hot sauces in there. While these might be not be most practical they were so darn cute! I got them from a restaurant in a take away meal. They are glass and you can probably get a few meals worth of sauce from them.
America the beautiful pass. This allows you access into any of the National Parks. Cost is $80. However they do have discounts or free passes for military, permanent disability’s, volunteers, senior citizens or elementary schools – check out those details here. Just be sure to check beforehand if a timed entry reservation is required at certain parks. They do this during busy seasons and even if you have the pass they won’t let you in without the timed entry reservation. While the pass is in one persons name, it allows entry for all passengers in a personal vehicle (or up to four adults at sites that charge per person). I can attest this is true as my husband and I met Emma and Quirijn in Utah and we visited a few national parks. There that was no problem letting the four of us in. The person who’s name the pass is in does have to show ID so be sure to have that with you.
