If you’re following this blog you know I love to make my own things; especially gifts. However I’m aware that sometimes life happens and we don’t always have the time or resources to always make everything.  I made a quick little guide for eco friendly gifts which I have personally bought for my friends and family.

While I do have some affiliate links below for items, please know all these items aren’t sponsored of any kind. I have purchased every single item with my own money because I genuinely find the items useful and want to support small eco friendly businesses.

I put this together for my dad for Father’s Day. However it can be for anyone that likes food and/or cooking. My dad is the first sustainable OG who taught me everything I know.  If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know my dad is referred to as ‘eco-dad’.  Be sure to check out my video of eco-dad over on Instagram too.

First off Stasher bags. I can’t say enough about how I love these things! They replace those individual ziplock baggies. The size I gave him is the half gallon. My dad is into unique cooking, such as sous vide.  Stasher bags makes it a breeze to do sous vide without the waste! Or even just marinating, storing food or even cooking in the oven with them. I included a little recipe card that some of the older Stasher packaging included. I do believe that they have eliminated little stuff like this. But I’ll put a link here for helpful recipes they share on their site. Here are some for sous vide.  Or just everyday recipes here.

I also included a cookbook from Zero Waste Chef.  If you’re into cooking and want to also learn some helpful ways how to reduce food waste…this is the book for you!  Its always great to buy your items through small independent businesses, so if you have a local small bookstore be sure to support them.  If thats not available to you then I would suggest checking out ThiftBooks online. Another tip in regards to books (if it isn’t for a gift) try checking it out at your local public library first.  A lot of times if they don’t have it you can always make a purchase suggestion for the library to get it.  9 out of 10 times when I suggest a book for purchase at my library,  its always fulfilled.

A bees wax wrap, which I found at my local grocery store. They also sell these online. This also helps eliminate single use plastics. You can easily wrap a sandwich or cover a bowl with these wraps. The wax in them makes it easy to mould around any object.  They wash up nicely and are reusable for many years to come.

I also included some salt that I picked up on my last travels to Utah. This is always a good idea to keep in mind when your traveling. Something that can be a bit of a souvenir, yet also be useful to the gift receiver.

Also my dad and I live far apart so our gifts are usually sent through the mail. We have been reusing this one box for the past year. I thought it would be a fun idea to write the dates of how many times we have reused this box. How many do you think we can make it up to!?  (also note to always reuse whatever you have on hand for packaging inside, in my case I’m reusing newspaper.)

Thats it for the Eco-Friendly Foodie gifts! Be sure to check out my other gift guides for the sustainable lover, the roadtripper, the graduate and the star wars lover.
