Founded by sisters Lindsey and Alison Delaplaine, Plaine Products offers a reusable, refillable system for everyday personal care. From hair to body and skincare, their products come in aluminum bottles that can be reused indefinitely. Unlike plastic, which can only be recycled once or twice before degrading, aluminum retains its quality and can be recycled repeatedly at a fraction of the cost and energy.

Your order will arrive in 100% recycled, plastic-free, and carbon-neutral packaging. You’ll receive a reusable pump to use with every refill, and you can return your empty bottles using a free shipping label provided with your order. Plaine Products reuses their shipping boxes up to five times, so save yours to send back your empties. Once the bottles are returned, they’re sanitized and refilled for another customer, helping reduce single-use plastics in landfills.

Plaine Products offers something for everyone, but here’s my experience with their products, tailored to my thin hair and sensitive skin:

Hair Care

•   Shampoo: Aloe-based with various scents, though I prefer the unscented.

•   Conditioner: Lightweight yet hydrating, I even use it on my scalp during drier seasons. Sometimes I leave a bit in my ends for added softness. 

•   Deep Conditioner: My weekly must-have, especially in winter or after swimming. The meadow scent is light and floral, while the Cherry Almond smells like summer!  It keeps my ends soft and hydrated without any heavy buildup for my fine hair.

•   Hair Repair: A daily staple that detangles and protects my hair. It’s especially helpful on damp hair after showering or swimming. This is by far one of my most favorite items the Plaine Products offers!

•   Sea Salt Spray: Perfect for adding volume and enhancing natural waves.
  Whenever I use this, I get compliments on my hair! If you have thin hair like me, then you’ll want to try this item.

•   Styling Gel: Great for taming stray hairs in updos. It enhances waves without leaving hair crunchy.

Body & Skin Care

•   Hair & Body Wash: A convenient 2-in-1 product, ideal for travel and camping. The sage-like scent is mild and perfect for sensitive skin.

•   Body Wash: It’s calming and leaves my skin smooth and refreshed. It lathers really nicely and a little really goes a long way.

•   Hand Wash: Available in delightful scents like rosemary mint, lavender, cherry almond, and orange. They’re hydrating and gentle on sensitive skin. I like to keep the orange scent at my kitchen sink and the lavender scent at my bathroom sink.

•   Body Lotion: Lightweight yet hydrating, it absorbs quickly without feeling greasy. Lavender was my first Plaine Products purchase back in 2019, but they now offer unscented too. Every scent they offer has agreed with my sensitive skin. Its fun to change up at the scents during the seasons.

• Face Wash: With aloe and vitamin C, it evens skin tone and is gentle enough for nightly use. I love both the citrus and unscented options.

•  Face Moisturizer: A refreshing citrus scent that’s perfect for morning and night. The 2.5 oz size is great for travel. A few of the main ingredients are vitamin C and aloe – both ingredients help even my skin tone.

•   Face Toner: Infused with aloe, rosehip, and rosewood oil, it soothes and calms my skin after sun exposure.

•   Beauty Oil: A versatile gem for taming frizz, hydrating the scalp, removing makeup, repairing cuticles, and nourishing the face. I do find the oil to be a bit heavy so I like to use this only in the evening.

I’d love for Plaine Products to introduce plastic-free sunscreen because finding sustainable options is a challenge! I also miss their hand sanitizer, which was discontinued in spring of 2023. It was my go-to, and I haven’t found a comparable replacement yet. Although Plaine Products does have a good DIY on their blog here.

The only product I haven’t tried yet is the purple shampoo, which is designed primarily for blonde and gray hair.
