Living a sustainable lifestyle is important to me. When I have a guest come over to visit I want to incorporate my lifestyle for guests.  I like to show guests that living sustainably can be easy by reusing and repurposing.  It may even encourage them to do the same when they are back home. Here are some things I do to get ready for guests:

1. Use a stasher bag and cut up rags for individual hand drying station in the bathroom. I use the mid stand up size and kept a canning ring in the middle to prop it open. I simply just wash the rags after use.

2. Provide filtered water in the bedroom/bathroom for them in an upcycled glass carfe.  I use an old starbucks frappuccino glass and a smaller jar as the lid/drinking glass. Some added mint from the garden is a nice touch too.

3. Be sure to show them where to place recyclables and compost. Putting labels on places makes disposing easy!

4. Provide a tote bag with reusables when you go out to eat. This will encourage to avoid using single use disposables.

5. Cook some things from scratch while they are there. Who doesn’t love a loaf of fresh baked bread or some fresh veggie broth. It brings up great conversation about avoiding food waste. My friend Tawny over on life starts at home on IG sent me some of her sourdough starter and its magical! Here is the recipe I use as suggested from Tawny, it comes out great every time – it’s from Feasting At Home.

6. Have options for toiletries. I’m a big fan of shampoo bars but I know everyone isn’t. So when I have guests I like to get some liquid shampoo in bulk from Plaine Products. (Some zero waste stores carry this, if not available in your area, you can always order online) I have a code or 20% off which is AMBER20.

7. Make sure they know where to place their bathroom towels to encourage reusing towels more than once. An easy way to keep track of towels is to use a clothespin with names on it.
Most importantly bring up reusing and repurposing in every day conversation. You may just encourage someone to do the same!
