Fall starts this year on September 22, 2022 in the northern hemisphere. I currently live in San Antonio, TX where its still 90°F (32°C) well into October! So I have to create my own fall. Whether you live in a warm climate or just want to decorate for fall then this is for you. Here are 6 easy ways to celebrate for fall that cost nothing.
1. Bring nature inside your home. Even those dead leaves provide some of the beauty of fall colors. I even framed some colored maple leaves that have kept their color over 3 years ago! I didn’t use any sealer either, the trick is making sure the leaves are firmly dried and pressed between the glass so no air gets to it. The frame I use is also double sided, so I think it helps that direct sunlight is not on it the majority of the year.
2. Visit your public library. Seasonal books make for cozy reading and doubles as decor. Be sure to plan ahead and put holds on popular items you want. If you don’t have a library card, then this is your hint to get one! The majority of libraries offer so much more than just books. Many provide free community classes on a number of topics, craft kits for kids & adults, and movies. Mine even has a community garden!
3. Watch your favorite show/movie! Gilmore Girls is always on repeat me for, especially in the fall. I was the same age as Rory when GG first started, so its a feel good nostalgia for me. Some other favorites are Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, The Craft – ok I think I’m sensing a 90’s nostalgic theme here. If you don’t want to pay for a streaming service to watch your favorite shows then I would recommend getting that library card!
4. Get creative! You don’t need to go out and make a target haul to celebrate things. The environment and your wallet will thank you if you just get a little creative with whats already around you. Maybe you have some old decor laying around, or even using simple things like produce to use a decor.
5. Rearrange items around your home! If you really look around you’ll probably see that cozy blanket in the bedoom you love so much, well bring it into the living room. Or maybe you have some old sweaters you aren’t wearing anymore? Try upcycling them into pillows or diy pumpkins. I even like to rearrange my furniture every season! Its amazing how your stuff feels brand new with just a little rearranging.
6. Make memories! Even if you’re not into decorating for the change of seasons, then go outside for a nature walk! Appreciating even the simplest of things, like the birds chiriping is bound to lift your mood. I have so many so many wonderful memories of fall growing up in rural Pennsylvania. The smell of that crisp morning air, starting the new school year, participating in fall sports, the crunch of leaves on the ground. Even the simple joys of bringing out your fall sweaters from the attic. Its those little things that always leave an impression. Happy fall!
